Sometimes people have just the right idea, and connect with just the right people, at just the right time – call it synchronicity. I think that’s what Abigail Willemse has achieved with the launch of the New Professionals NZ group – with a website and Twitter account.
Mind you, Abigail’s a go-getter anyway; she’s only a very young professional herself but already editor of Library Life and making connections via social media like there’s no tomorrow.
But back to this new group. I have been watching since their launch; the enthusiasm and level of participation is fantastic. Clearly a lot of new-to-the-profession librarians were in need of a place they felt comfortable with.
The group is particularly active on Twitter using hashtag #newprofnz and has a Twitter Chat organised for this Thursday 7 March — details here. I’m feel quite sorry that I have been around far too long to qualify for this group…but I am enjoying watching from the sidelines.
I am totally supportive and encouraging of the New Librarians groundswell. the thing is, that experienced librarians have sooo very much to gain AND give to this group. i think it is fantastic that this network is forming organically and look forward to watching it develop.
I agree with Amanda. It would have been lovely had something like this been around when we started, but here’s hoping it exceeds all our wildest expectations.
I agree with Amanda. It great to see from the the last session on Thursday 7th March that they have acknowledged that the not so “New” Professional has a lot to offer them and they are encouraging our support. It’s only in it infancy but is going to develop into some great that the profession needed for a long time> I know how I felt after I first graduated. This is the start to get them involved in the profession and LIANZA. Well done Abigail Willemse.
Thanks Cath, Amanda, Shelley, and Kim – I feel very chuffed
I would have commented sooner, but I was too busy blushing furiously :p
It is really developing into a great network and I am very overwhelmed by the support that people have given it and the willingness with which people are volunteering to help out and really get behind it. I’m really looking forward to seeing where it goes and what contribution we are inspired to make to the profession!
Thank you once again for your kind words – they mean a lot
