As the week comes to a freezing cold end I am left thinking about Thing 7: communicate (Google+ hangout, Skype).
Our libraries recently started using Skype; for our NZ Post Children’s Book Awards events we Skyped with authors. Some of these sessions were for classes that came into the library, and one was for an adult book club. This was really popular, and so easy to do – the authors were very generous with their time.
We have seven libraries, quite geographically spread (it’s about 1.5 hours drive between the outermost branches), so some staff never get to spend time with each other. We’re thinking about using Google+ Hangout as a way of them having an informal chat from time to time. Not a staff meeting, just a chance to get to know each other better.
I also wonder if Google+ Hangouts might me a good way to allow our more remote users to share in events such as book club or short ‘how to’ classes? It’s certainly worth thinking about…
